How I work

Addictions & addictive behaviours

Therapy can explore what sits beneath behaviours that have become difficult to control, including alcohol or drug use, pornography or sexual behaviours, social media/technology use and other compulsive patterns. The aim is not simply to remove a behaviour, but to understand what function it has been serving and develop healthier ways of coping.

Neurodiversity

Therapy can be adapted for neurodivergent clients, including autistic people and people with ADHD. We can work collaboratively around communication, sensory or processing needs, overwhelm, self-understanding and the impact of living in environments that may not always fit the way you experience the world.

Tools between sessions

Where useful, our work may include journalling, mindfulness, breathing and grounding exercises, noticing patterns and triggers, practising boundaries, assertiveness and self-compassion.

Gifty is an amazing therapist and person. She is honest and thorough, and has given me tools and resources that have helped with anxiety and difficult experiences.

What to expect

Individual sessions are 50 minutes and couples sessions are 60 minutes. Therapy generally begins weekly. I normally recommend an initial 12 weekly sessions so there is enough consistency to begin meaningful work, although this is reviewed collaboratively and therapy does not automatically end after 12 sessions.

You do not have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy.

You may be coming because something specific has happened, because you have been struggling for a long time, or simply because you have reached a point where you know you cannot continue carrying things in the same way.
Therapy can offer space to slow things down, understand what you are feeling, identify patterns and develop more supportive ways of responding to yourself and your circumstances.

I can support you with

Psychology that helps make sense of your experience.

Transactional Analysis

TA can help us understand patterns in thoughts, feelings, relationships and communication, including the different internal voices or “ego states” that may influence how we respond.

CBT-informed work

CBT tools can help us notice connections between thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviour, and begin to challenge patterns that may be keeping us stuck.

Attachment & nervous system

Attachment-informed and nervous-system-aware work can help explain why certain situations feel especially activating, overwhelming or difficult to navigate.

Faith can be included — when you want it to be.

If your faith or spirituality is an important part of who you are, therapy can make room for it. I work respectfully with people from different faith traditions and cultural backgrounds, as well as with people who do not identify with any faith.
For clients who specifically request Christian-integrated counselling, biblical or faith-based perspectives can be sensitively incorporated alongside psychological therapy. This is always client-led.
